    Analysis of P-Delta Effect in Steel Structure Design with Eccentrically Braced Frame System (EBF) Using Midas Gen Software

    Abstract
    Multi-story buildings with steel structures require a reliable lateral force damping system to anticipate seismic loads. One effective system in this regard is the Eccentrically Braced Frame (EBF), which combines stiffness and deformation capacity (ductility) through connecting elements called links. One important aspect affecting the behavior of this structure is the P-Delta effect, which is a form of geometric nonlinearity caused by the interaction between axial forces and lateral displacement, particularly significant in high-rise structures.This study aims to evaluate and compare the impact of the P-Delta effect on the performance of multi-story steel structures using two types of EBF configurations: Split K and V. The study was conducted through numerical simulation using MIDAS Gen 2023 software on a 10-story building model. The parameters analyzed include total displacement, interstory drift, stability coefficient, and moments.Based on the analysis results, it was found that the eccentric bracing configuration of type V demonstrated superior structural performance compared to type Split K, as evidenced by smaller values of displacement and interstory drift. The P-Delta effect caused an average increase in displacement,interstory drift, and stability coefficient ranging from 0% to 3% compared to the model that did not consider this effect. However, all results remain within the tolerance limits set by SNI 1726:2019. Therefore, the application of the V-type EBF system and consideration of the P-Delta effect in the design process are recommended for multi-story steel structures located in earthquake-prone areas.
