Abstract
NUR ALISA: The Effect of Giving a Combination of Plant Growth Regulators
Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) and Benzyl Amino Purine (BAP) on the Growth of Dutch
Eggplant Shoots (Solanum betaceum Cav.) In Vitro, supervised by REVANDY
ISKANDAR MUDA DAMANIK. Dutch eggplant (Solanum betaceum Cav.) is a high-value horticultural
plant with various benefits, but the provision of seeds is still constrained by its
susceptibility to pests and diseases. Tissue culture is an alternative solution in the
propagation of Dutch eggplant. This study aims to determine the effect of giving a
combination of plant growth regulators (PGR) Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) and
Benzyl Amino Purine (BAP) on the growth of Dutch eggplant shoots in vitro. This
research was conducted at the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of
Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara from June to October 2024, this study
used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor is
the concentration of IAA (I0 = 0 ppm, I1 (0,5 ppm) = 0.5 ppm, and I2 = 1 ppm), and the second factor is the concentration of BAP (B0 = 0 ppm, B1 = 1 ppm, and
B2 = 3 ppm). The results showed that the administration of IAA had no significant
effect on the time of shoot emergence, but had a significant effect on the number
of leaves and shoots. Similarly, the administration of BAP did not significantly
affect the time of shoot emergence, but significantly affected the number of leaves
and shoots. The interaction between IAA and BAP did not significantly affect the
time of shoot emergence, the number of leaves and shoots. The administration of
IAA concentration of 0.5 ppm with BAP 3 ppm gave the best results for the growth
of tamarillo in vitro.
