Abstract

Mangrove ecotourism is a form of tourism that focuses on the utilization of mangrove forests as attractions while maintaining the preservation of their ecosystems. Mangrove ecotourism is a form of tourism that focuses on the utilization of mangrove forests as an object while maintaining the sustainability of their ecosystem. This research aims to identify the potential for the development of mangrove ecotourism in Tapak Kuda Village, Karang Gading Wildlife Sanctuary, Langkat Timur Laut. The village has significant ecotourism potential derived from the mangrove ecosystem, local traditions, and active participation from the local community. A descriptive qualitative approach was used by applying SWOT analysis to evaluate the internal and external factors affecting the development of the tourism sector. Data collection was conducted through field observations, semi-structured interviews with stakeholders, and related documentation studies. Recommended strategies include improving infrastructure, community capacity building training, developing conservation-based educational tourism, and sustainable waste management. This approach is designed to strengthen the well-being of local communities while preserving environmental sustainability. This research makes a significant contribution to the field of ecotourism by presenting an integrated framework based on SWOT analysis as a foundation for planning rural ecotourism that balances ecological protection and economic development.
