Background: Otitis externa is defined as an inflammatory process due to infection of the
cutaneous and subcutaneous ear canal, which can involve the tympanic membrane and pinna.
usually appears with symptoms of otalgia, with or without discharge from the ear. Objective: The
aim was to analyze the antibacterial effect of Manuka Honey (MM) UMF 15+ on the growth of
P.Aeruginosa bacteria in secretions from patients with diffuse OE. Method: This type of research
is True Experimental Laboratories with a post-test with control group design model. This research
was conducted at Prof. Dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Hospital. The population and samples used in this
study were P. Aeruginosa. The samples used were 24 bacterial cultures from patient ear
secretions. The research sample was obtained using the nonprobability sampling method with
consecutive techniques. The research was conducted from November 2024 – February 2025. Data
analysis was carried out using the ANOVA test if it was normally distributed and if it was not
normally distributed using the Kruskal Wallis test. Results: There was a significant difference in
the inhibition zone between the negative control and all honey treatments (p <0.001 to 0.003). and
indicates that MM has been proven to effectively inhibit growth of resistant P.Aeruginosa bacteria
that have become resistant to Ampicillin/Sulbactam, Aztreonam, Ceftazidime, Ceftriaxon,
Cefepime and Cotrimoxazole. Conclusion: Manuca Honey UMF 15+ at all concentrations
significantly inhibits bacterial growth compared to the negative control (DMSO 1%) and indicates
that MM is proven effective in inhibiting the growth of resistant P. Aeruginosa.
