Background: Acne is a common inflammatory skin condition, particularly prevalent during adolescence, and is generally caused by Propionibacterium acnes. Essential oil extracted from cinnamon bark contains active compounds, primarily cinnamaldehyde, which possesses antibacterial properties. The nanoemulgel formulation was chosen because it is able to improve the penetration and stability of the active substance through a nano-sized emulsion system suspended in a gel matrix. Objective: This study aimed to formulate a cinnamon bark oil nanoemulgel preparation (Cinnamomum burmannii (Ness & Th. Nees)), evaluate the physical quality of the preparation and test the antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes. Methods: Testing the antibacterial activity of cinnamon bark oil against Propionibacterium acnes. Formulation of nanoemulgel preparations with variations in cinnamon bark oil concentration F1 (0.1%), F2 (0.2%) and F3 (0.3%). The evaluation of nanoemulgel preparations was in the form of particle size tests, organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, dispersibility, centrifugation, cycling test, stability at room temperature for 12 weeks, irritation test and antibacterial activity test. Results: The concentration of cinnamon bark oil that produced an effective inhibitory diameter was 0.2% i.e. 12.57±0.15 mm. The nanoemulgel preparation meets the requirements of evaluation, stability during 12 weeks of storage, cycling test, and does not cause skin irritation. The results of the antibacterial activity test of nanoemulgel preparations have a range of 7.57-9.60 mm. Conclusion: Cinnamon bark oil has strong antibacterial activity, and can be formulated into a nanoemulgel preparation that meets the requirements of the physical quality of the preparation and is stable for 12 weeks in room temperature storage.en_US
