Mental Healthcare Center for Non-psychotic Mental Disorders with Biophilic Architecture Approach in Medan City
Abstract
The increase in mental health disorders following the COVID-19 pandemic has become a serious concern. Sociological factors such as living conditions, social roles, and relationships also contribute to the decline in mental well-being. To address this issue, there is a need for mental health facilities that support both physical and psychological recovery.
Biophilic design is an architectural approach that integrates natural elements into the built environment to promote healing and well-being. In a Mental Healthcare Center, this concept can be applied through the use of plants, water features, natural light, fresh air, and natural materials in facades, interiors, and outdoor spaces.
This design aims to create a calm and comfortable environment while maintaining a strong connection with nature. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the research is based on factual data to support analysis and conclusions. By increasing access to nature and encouraging natural interaction, biophilic design is expected to enhance mental health and support the healing process.
