| dc.description.abstract | This study explores teacher’s communication skills in motivating student’s active participation in the classroom. Effective communication skills significanty influence student’s attitudes, mindsets, and mental development in the future. The purpose of this research is to analyze verbal and nonverbal communication skills used by teachers during the learning process, how teacher use communication to motivate student’s learning activeness, and their ability to identify student’s interests and talents at Nurul Azizi Integrated Islamic Private Elementary School in Medan City. This study applies Jean Piaget’s cognitive theory and uses a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews with six subject teachers as primary informants, triangulation through interviews with the school principal and education figures, observations, and documentation by monitoring classroom learning. The results indicate that verbal and nonverbal communication skills are crucial components, such as adjusting language and sentences, physical gestures (like encouraging claps), soft intonation, and both verbal and nonverbal praise. These strategies directly impact the success of the teaching and learning process and foster interaction between teachers and students. In addition to increasing learning activeness, good communication skills help develop student’s social-emotional abilities, such as emotional control, self-confidence, cooperation, and social awareness. Some teacher also combines verbal and nonverbal communication through the use of teaching aids, storytelling with illustrations, and outdoor learning activities. | en_US |
