    Abstract
Understanding the meaning of success in life indirectly provides a sense of direction for future actions. This study aims to explore the meaning of success among late adolescents in Medan City. The research employed a mixed-method approach grounded in indigenous psychology. The sampling method used was purposive sampling, with a total of 283 late adolescents in Medan City participating in the study. Data were collected using an open-ended questionnaire comprising two questions about the meaning of success. The results revealed ten definitions of success among late adolescents in Medan City: making parents happy, achieving dream careers, material wealth, living independently, academic achievements, helping others, having a happy family, psychological well-being, self-dedication, and personal development. Cross-tabulation analysis showed differences in perceptions based on gender. Male adolescents tended to associate success with material and professional achievements, while female adolescents focused more on academic achievements, psychological well-being, and personal development. Furthermore, differences were identified based on living arrangements; adolescents living at home prioritized dream careers and material wealth more than those living in dormitories or rented accommodations. Additionally, adolescents from higher economic backgrounds tended to define success in terms of material wealth.
