This study aims to examine the relationship between smartphone addiction, body image,
and self-esteem among adolescents at Perguruan Al-Amjad Medan. The research
employed a quantitative approach involving 220 students selected using non-probability
quota sampling. Three primary instruments were used: the Smartphone Addiction Scale
Short Version (SAS-SV), the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ-34), and Rosenberg’s Self-
Esteem Scale. Data were analyzed using multiple regression techniques. The findings
revealed a significant negative correlation between smartphone addiction and self-esteem,
and a significant negative correlation between body image and self-esteem. Additionally,
both smartphone addiction and body image simultaneously influenced self-esteem. The
results underscore the importance of addressing smartphone usage and body image issues
to promote better self-esteem in adolescents.
