    Abstract
Literature is not only a medium for aesthetic expression, but also a reflection of social dynamics within society. One of the important aspects that can be analyzed in literary works is the form of social interaction between characters, which represents the reality of human relationships in various situations. This study aims to describe the forms of social interaction in the novel Laut Tengah by Berliana Kimberly using a literary sociology approach and the theory of social interaction by Soerjono Soekanto. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collected through observation and note-taking techniques based on the novel's content. The results of the study show two main forms of social interaction in the novel, namely associative and dissociative interactions. Associative interactions include: (1) cooperation, consisting of a) direct cooperation between the characters Bhumi, Haia, and supporting characters, and b) traditional cooperation involving Bhumi, Haia, and other characters; (2) accommodation, which includes a) coercion between Bhumi and Aisa, b) compromise between Haia, Aisa, and Stella, c) mediation between Bhumi and Prof. Fatih, and d) tolerance among Aisa, Haia, Haneul, and Suri; (3) assimilation between the main character and Suri. Meanwhile, dissociative interactions include: (1) competition between Haia and Tera; (2) contravention in the forms of general, simple, intensive, and secret, involving Haia and supporting characters such as Tera, Haneul, Stella, Zidan, and Zihoon; and (3) personal conflict between Haia and characters like Maya, Ryan, and several minor characters. These findings indicate that Laut Tengah not only presents a fictional narrative but also reflects complex social realities through the conflicts and relationships between its characters.
