dc.description.abstract | The Malacca Strait is a marine region located along the equator, thus
playing a significant role in climate variability that influences primary productivity
through various factors. This study aims to examine the distribution of
chlorophyll-a, sea surface temperature, and surface ocean currents; compare
chlorophyll-a concentrations at the surface and in the water column; and analyze
the relationship between chlorophyll-a levels and primary productivity in the
Malacca Strait. Data were collected through direct field observations and satellite
image processing using SeaDAS and ArcGIS software. The results showed that
chlorophyll-a concentrations from July to December ranged from 1.189 to 3.297
mg/m³, sea surface temperature ranged from 26.56o
to 29.92°C, and surface current
velocity ranged from -0.041 to 0.191 m/s. The comparison of chlorophyll-a between
surface and column waters in the Malacca Strait was not statistically significant
due to differences in sunlight penetration. The relationship between chlorophyll-a
and primary productivity was found to be positive and strongly correlated. This
research is expected to provide valuable information regarding the level of primary
productivity based on chlorophyll-a in marine waters using the Vertically
Generalized Production Model (VGPM). | en_US |
