Literary works are a reflection of society's social life that depicts various
phenomena, including social deviance. Social deviation refers to behavior that goes
against the values and norms of society, as explained by Lawang. This study aims
to describe the social deviation contained in the anthology of Juita short stories by
Herlambang Aditya Tantra. The study focuses on two forms of social deviance
based on Narwoko and Suyanto's classification, namely antisocial acts and criminal
acts. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were
obtained through literature study techniques on short story texts using a mimetic
criticism approach. The results show that there are two forms of social deviation in
Juita's short stories, namely: 1) antisocial acts, consisting of (a) prostitution; and (b)
social isolation, including withdrawal and uncommunicative; and 2) criminal acts
consisting of: (a) murder; (b) violence, including persecution, threats, defamation,
and child sexual abuse; (c) fraud; (d) labor exploitation; (e) bribery; and (f)
corruption. Thus, it can be concluded that social deviance in Juita's short story
anthology is depicted in two main forms, namely antisocial acts and criminal acts.
The deviations are shown through the characters' behavior, the conflicts that occur,
the setting of the situation, and certain motives that are described both implicitly
and explicitly.
