    Abstract
    Ancient manuscripts are an important source of information that contains traces of civilization and human thought in the past written in a script. Some tribes in Indonesia that still have ancient manuscripts contain scripts such as Bugis, Balinese, Javanese, Sundanese, Lampung and Batak scripts. Batak manuscripts usually contain traditional concoctions, occult sciences related to how to ward off bad luck, predictions, dating and so on. The science used in researching manuscripts is the discipline of philology. This research aims to (1) Describe the transliteration and translation of the manuscript (2) Describe the identity of the manuscript, (3) Describe the process of analyzing the manuscript through a standard edition. The research method used is a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach. Based on the discussion, the results of transliteration and translation of manuscripts, manuscript identification, and the process of analyzing manuscripts through standard editions are obtained. From these results it is concluded that the manuscript is a manuscript with Simalungun script which has a difference in su symbols with manuscripts in general. The manuscript entitled Pagar Tawar Sitahan Rasun Manuscript with inventory number 1226/07.135 which is stored in a special room (storage) on the second floor of the State Museum of North Sumatra Province with a size of 8.5 cm x 8 cm and 86 pages thick and the number of lines per page averages 12 lines, written from left to right and reciprocal. The manuscript material uses Alim/Ulin bark (aquilera) with the manuscript language using Simalungun but there are also adoptions from Toba Batak, Malay and Arabic. The manuscript has a social function as a preservation of traditional knowledge about traditional medicine. There are words and sentences that do not match the writing so that word and sentence corrections and error comments are made.
