Effectiveness And Formulation Of Carboxymethyl Chitosan Based Moisturizer Preparations With The Addition Of Niacinamide As Whitening Agent
Abstract
Research has been conducted on the use of carboxymethyl chitosan in the formulation of moisturizer preparations as antioxidant. Moisturizer is a product that helps hydrate the skin and can also provide a brightening effect and prevent wrinkles on the face. Carboxymethyl chitosan has attracted widespread attention in the field of cosmetics. Moisturizer preparations made with the addition of carboxmethyl chitosan an improve the quality of the product as an antioxidant. It’s properties as an antioxidant are interesting to develop because it can stabilize free radicals that cause dry skin and cause wrinkles on the skin face. Antioxidant testing using a UV-Vis Specthrophotometer with the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-pycrylhidrazyl) method. The reaction process between antioxidant compounds and DPPH radicals occurs through hydrogen atom donation mechanism. This study aims to formulate a mositurizer where carboxymethyl chitosan is added with three concentration variations, namely 1%, 1,5% and 2%. The best moisturizer preparation is with the addition of carboxymethyl chitosan 2%. The process pf making carboxymethyl chitosan moisturizer is by using experimental methods and characterization is carried out using parameters in the form of homogeneity, pH, viscosity, physical stability, hedonic, irritation, antioxidant, moisture and wrinkle tests. The results of evaluation of the moisturizer preparation during 8-weeks storage period showed that the moisturizer met the requirements of the homogeneity test, the pH value pf the moisturizer preparation was in accordance with the physiological pH requirements of faial skin, namely pH between 3,5-8 as contained in SNI 16-4954-1998. The viscosity value of moisturizer preparation was also in accordance with the physiological viscosity requirements of facial skin, namely 41.981-59.092 cP. The stability test of the moisturizer preparation showed no change in color, aroma and texture during the storage period and did not irritate skin. The antioxidant activity test using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-pycrylhidrazyl) method obtained the largest percentage (%) of antioxidant inhibition of the moisturizer, namely with the addition of carboxymethyl chitosan 2%, namely 18,23%.
