Diabetes mellitus is a group of chronic metabolic disorders characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from insulin secretion deficiency, impaired insulin action, or both. if not managed optimally, this condition may lead to macrovascular and microvascular complications. One of the emerging complementary therapeutic approaches is the use of traditional medicinal plants, such as Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera), which are phytochemically rich in bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, alkaloids, and polyphenols known to have antihyperglycemic effects. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Moringa leaf herbal therapy on reducing blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. The research used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design: a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group. The study was conducted in Tuhemberua District, North Nias Regency, involving a total of 64 respondents divided into two groups: 32 in the intervention group and 32 in the control group, selected using a simple random sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the T-test. The results showed a statistically significant difference between the two groups, with a p-value of 0.002 (<0.05) and an average reduction in blood glucose level of 106.74 mg/dl. In conclusion, herbal therapy using Moringa leaves significantly lowers blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus patients, making Moringa leaves an effective alternative in diabetes management.
