Squid (Uroteuthis sp.) is one of the fishery commodities found in the Malacca Strait, Belawan, with high economic value to meet export market demands. The high demand may indicate the occurrence of overfishing. This study aimed to examine the growth and reproductive biology aspects of squid (Uroteuthis sp.) in the waters of the Malacca Strait, Belawan, North Sumatra. The research was conducted from June to September 2024. The sampling method used was random purposive sampling at one-month intervals over a period of four months. A total of 357 squid samples (Uroteuthis sp.) were collected, with mantle lengths ranging from 86 to 425 mm and total body weights ranging from 29 to 717 grams. The growth pattern of squid (Uroteuthis sp.) showed negative allometric growth, with condition factor values classified as lean, ranging from 0.203 to 2.644. Based on the Von Bertalanffy growth equation, the estimated asymptotic length (L∞) and growth coefficient (K) for male squid (Uroteuthis sp.) were 382.25 mm and 1.01/year, respectively, while for female squid, the values were 168.75 mm and 0.51/year. The reproductive analysis showed a sex ratio of 1:1.18, indicating a balanced population. Gonad maturity stages (GMS) ranged from stage I to V, with the gonadosomatic index (GSI) increasing along with the gonad maturity stage. Fecundity ranged from 198 to 12,869 oocytes, and the diameter distribution of the eggs indicated that squid (Uroteuthis sp.) is a total spawner. The Lc value was found to be lower than the Lm value, indicating an unfavorable condition where the squid were being captured during gonadal maturation.en_US
