Social Impact Of Sharia Financing In Empowering MSME Actors Of BTPN Syariah Customers In Binabo Julu Village Barumun Sub-Dictrict Padang Lawas District
Abstract
This research aims to examine the social impact of sharia financing on the empowerment of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) that are customers of BTPN Syariah in Binabo Julu Village subdistrict Barumun District, Padang Lawas Regency. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, referring to Burkey's theory of social impact and Soeharto's concept of empowerment. Burkey emphasizes that social impact is a positive change in the lives of the community that includes social, economic, and power relations aspects, while Soeharto defines empowerment as the process of increasing the capacity of individuals or groups to gain access to and control over the resources needed to improve their quality of life. The research findings indicate that the sharia financing implemented by BTPN Syariah significantly contributes to the socio-economic empowerment of its customers. Customers not only gain access to business capital based on sharia principles, but also receive guidance, training, and motivation that gradually enhance their independence and self-confidence in running their businesses. From Burkey's perspective, this shows a social transformation, characterized by increased community participation in economic activities, the formation of group solidarity, and the strengthening of social networks among business actors. Meanwhile, empowerment according to Soeharto is reflected in four main aspects: strength, protection, support, and development. Strength emerges through increasing the bargaining power of MSME actors; protection is seen from a fair and interest-free Islamic financing system; support is provided in the form of regular guidance by field officers; and development is evident in the increase of business capacity and financial literacy of customers. This entire process demonstrates that Islamic financing can serve as a social instrument that not only supports economic sustainability but also strengthens social structure and fosters an independent and empowered community. Thus, it can be concluded that Islamic financing through BTPN Syariah in the village of Binabo Julu district Barumun has a significant social impact in strengthening the empowerment of MSME actors, in line with the participatory development approach advocated by Burkey and Soeharto.
