The difference in academic achievement between high-achieving and low achieving students in senior high school indicates a gap that is not only caused by learning ability but also by social and cultural influences. This study aims to examine the differences in academic habitus between high-achieving and low achieving students at SMA Negeri 2 Medan. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five high-achieving students, five low-achieving students, and one teacher. The findings show significant differences in study habits, family support, peer environment, and recognition from teachers, all of which affect students’ academic achievement. High-achieving students generally possess stronger cultural, social, and symbolic capital. Although some students have similar economic capital, the way they utilize that capital differs. These results support Pierre Bourdieu's theory that habitus and capital determine an individual's position and success within a field, particularly in the field of education.en_US
