Analysis of Palm Oil Mill Performance Against Sustainable Supply Chain Management Using the Smart Partial Least Square Method
Abstract
PT. Mitra Agung Sawita Sejati is a company engaged in the cultivation and processing of oil palm, located in Tanjung Kasau, Seisuka District, Batubara Regency, North Sumatra. The company produces crude palm oil (CPO) and palm kernel oil (PKO). Based on data from 2020 to 2024, an increase in CPO production has led to a rise in the quantity of waste generated. As production increases, the company must ensure its operations run smoothly to prevent negative impacts on the economy, organizational performance, and the surrounding environment. This study aims to analyze the influence of sustainable supply chain practices at PT. Mitra Agung Sawita Sejati using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) method. Data collection techniques include interviews and questionnaires distributed to 40 respondents. The results show that economic performance, social performance, and environmental performance have a positive impact on sustainable supply chain practices, contributing 17.3%, 11.9%, and 66.2% respectively. Recommended improvements include cost efficiency measures, increasing product added value, and optimizing logistics for economic performance; enhancing employee welfare and occupational safety, strengthening internal communication, and developing more impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs for social performance; and reinforcing waste management efforts, improving energy efficiency, and implementing more consistent recycling programs for environmental performance. It is also recommended that regular training on environmentally friendly practices be provided to all employees.
