| dc.description.abstract | A study was conducted to analyze and compare the concentration of heavy metals Lead, Cadmium, and Zinc in Road Dust Suspension-Resuspension (RDS-R) around the inside and outside of the Medan Industrial Area (KIM). Road dust samples were collected using a portable vacuum with three location points around the inside and two points outside the KIM area. Each road dust with a collection point was combined into one to create a representative sample. Sifted with a 200 mesh sieve and continued with sample destruction using wet destruction. Testing of the concentration of Pb, Cd, and Zn metals was carried out using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES). The results showed that the concentration of each Pb, Cd, Zn metal contained in road dust around the inside of KIM was 0.29 mg/L; 0.01 mg/L; and 4,62 mg/L. Meanwhile, the concentrations of Pb, Cd, and Zn metals contained in road dust outside KIM were 0.32 mg/L; 0.01 mg/L; and 8,21 mg/L, respectively. The order of metal concentrations from highest to lowest is Zn> Pb> Cd, where the concentrations of Pb and Zn tend to be greater outside the KIM area compared to around the inside. This is due to the high frequency of traffic intensity outside KIM and the contribution of heavy metals sourced from sampling points around the inside of KIM is relatively lower than the main sources of heavy metals such as metal smelters, forging factories, and steel factories, as well as smoke from burning coal and oil which produce significant amounts of heavy metal emissions. | en_US |
