Quality Control of Pans Using The Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) Methods at CV Bintang Terang
Abstract
CV Bintang Terang is a company engaged in manufacturing production, namely a pot manufacturing factory. The finished pot production results will be distributed to several major cities on the island of Sumatra. The problem currently being faced by CV Bintang Terang is the large number of defective pot products. The average number of defective pot products in one year is 2,819 Kg (3.043% of total production). This number still exceeds the defect level limit desired by the company, which is a maximum of 1%. Based on these conditions, it is necessary to resolve the causes of product defects using Statistical Quality Control (SQC) with seven tools and provide quality improvement suggestions using the failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) method. Based on the results of the analysis using seven tools, three types of defects were obtained, namely leaking, bloating and broken stems. Based on the results of the Cause and Effect Diagram and FMEA analysis that have been carried out, it is known that the highest RPN value is 294 for the cause of leaking defects, namely poor cooling and heating temperatures, the next highest RPN value is 252 for the cause of broken stems due to imprecise stem installation and negligence in stacking goods. Factors that cause defective products are non-stop machine usage routines that cause the machine to overheat and not being regularly maintained and lack of precision in selecting raw materials that cause more defective products.
