Pengaruh Penambahan Air Kelapa Muda dengan Gliserol pada Pasca Kriopreservasi Sperma Ikan Mas (Cyprinus carpio)
The Effect of Adding Young Coconut Water with Glycerol on Post Cryopreservation of Goldfish (Cyprinus carpio) Sperm
Abstract
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of adding young coconut water combined with glycerol on the quality of goldfish (Cyprinus carpio) sperm after cryopreservation. Cryopreservation is a method of storing sperm at ultra-low temperatures to preserve its quality over time. Five treatments were tested, including a control (glycerol without coconut water) and combinations of young coconut water with glycerol at concentrations of 45%, 55%, 65%, and 75%, each with three replications. Observed parameters included post-thaw sperm motility and viability. The results showed that the addition of young coconut water significantly improved sperm motility and viability. The best result was found in the 75% coconut water and glycerol treatment, which yielded a motility rate of 75.67% and viability rate of 77.56%. These findings indicate that the combination provides an optimal isotonic environment along with nutrients and membrane protection during the cryopreservation process. This research suggests that natural substances such as young coconut water can serve as an effective alternative cryoprotectant, enhancing sperm preservation and contributing to increased seed production efficiency in aquaculture practices.
