A cultural asset with rich historical value, has an important role in
educational facilities, but has decreased in function and
attractiveness over time, the State Museum of North Sumatra
Province needs a redevelopment process. This research was
conducted to redevelop the museum into a North Sumatra
Cultural Center, through changing the function of space,
developing futuristic designs, and adding more representative
facilities and public areas. The design used neo-vernacular
architecture approach, which collaborates elements of local
culture with modern architectural styles. The purpose of
redeveloping the museum is to revive its role as an active public
space, functional and relevant to the needs of today's society.
The results of this design are expected to increase the vitality of
the building, enrich its use value, and strengthen the cultural
identity of North Sumatra in the context of sustainable urban
development.
