dc.description.abstractThis study examines the role of runggu cultural communication in resolving divorce-related conflicts within the Karo ethnic community in Lingga Cultural Village, Simpang Empat subdistrict, Karo Regency. Runggu refers to a traditional deliberative space where community members gather todiscuss and collectively solve issues, including marital conflicts leading to divorce. As a hallmark of karo culture, runggu continues to serve avital function in community governance and conflict resolution. The Research aims to explore how cultural communication through runggu contributes to resolving divorce disputes among the Karo people, specifically in Lingga Village. The study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, families involved in conflict, and mediators (kalimbubu, sembuyak, anak beru), alongside direct observations of runggu practices. Analysis was conducted interpretively, focusing on the symbolic and communicative aspects of the runggu in the context of conflict resolution. Findings reveal that runggu functions as a customary decision-making forum and a channel of communication that upholds the values of kinship, deliberation, and social reconciliation. Through symbolic dialogue, the delivery of advice, and mediation by kinship figure and customary elders, runggu serves as an effective cultural space for de-escalating tension, finding consensus, and preventing the broader social consequences of divorce. The study affirms that cultural communication plays a significant role in conflict resolution prosesses grounded in local wisdom. Enhancing and preserving traditional forums such as runggu holds potential for enriching conflict resolution frameworks within Indonesia’s indigenous communities.en_US
