The synthesis of hydroxyapatite (HAp) from golden apple snail shells (Pomacea canaliculata) has been carried out using the wet precipitation method. This study aims to evaluate the effect of varying calcium oxide (CaO) powder weights on the characteristics of the resulting HAp. The CaO powder weights used were 8 grams, 10 grams, and 12 grams. The analysis results showed that the calcium-to-phosphorus (Ca/P) ratio of the HAp product did not fully meet the standard stoichiometric ratio of 1.67. The Ca/P ratio closest to the stoichiometric value was obtained with 10 grams of CaO, yielding a ratio of 1.58. Morphological analysis using microscopy revealed that the formed HAp particles were small and interconnected, forming a porous structure. This structure supports the biocompatibility characteristics of HAp, which are important for biomedical applications. Additionally, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy analysis showed the presence of –OH and PO₄³⁻ functional groups, which are characteristic of hydroxyapatite, confirming the success of the synthesis process. Overall, golden apple snail shells have the potential as an alternative calcium source for hydroxyapatite production, which can be applied in areas such as remineralization agents in toothpaste.en_US
