Japan is one of the countries actively providing foreign aid through the Official Development Assistance (ODA) scheme to developing countries, including Kenya and Indonesia. However, the effectiveness of such aid in promoting infrastructure development and economic growth in recipient countries remains a subject of inquiry. This study focuses on the extent to which Japan's foreign aid has had a tangible impact on economic development through infrastructure projects. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach. Data were collected from various secondary sources such as academic journals, books, institutional reports, and official websites, and were analyzed to examine the patterns of Japanese aid distribution and its influence on infrastructure development and economic growth in the recipient countries. Based on the research findings, the relationship between Japan and Kenya during the 2014–2016 period demonstrates that the economic cooperation established was strategic and mutually beneficial. Japan played a significant role in supporting infrastructure development and human resource capacity building in Kenya through ODA and investments in the transport, energy, and education sectors. Meanwhile, Kenya emerged as a potential trading partner and a gateway to the East African regional economy for Japan. These findings indicate that Japanese aid not only had a positive impact on Kenya's economic growth but also strengthened Japan’s position in its economic expansion across the African region.en_US
