Karakteristik Habitat Peneluran Penyu di Pantai Binasi Sorkam Barat Kabupaten Tapanuli Tengah

Abstract

Sea turtles are wildlife belonging to the reptile class and usually live in the ocean and only come ashore when laying eggs, so terrestrial habitat plays an important role for the survival of sea turtles. This study aims to identify the characteristics of sea turtle nesting habitat and analyze the vegetation structure at Binasi Beach, West Sorkam. This research was conducted from June 2024 to January 2025. The method used in this research is purposive sampling and plot line method for vegetation analysis. The results showed that there were 18 nest finding points and 1 turtle track mark, and there were 3 types of turtles in Binasi Sorkam Beach, namely green turtles (Chelonia mydas), Olive Ridley turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea), and hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata). The distance of nests found at each location point to the beach is between 30 m and 50 m. The nest temperature ranges from 29 - 33 m. The temperature of the nests ranged from 29 - 33°C, and the distance of the nests from the highest tide line was around 6 - 12 meters. The characteristics of Binasi Beach are sloping and have a good sand substrate for sea turtle nesting.
