dc.description.abstractIndonesia is a country prone to earthquakes due to its geological location at the convergence of three tectonic plates: the Indo-Australian Plate, the Pacific Plate, and the Eurasian Plate. Therefore, building structures must be designed to withstand seismic activity. With the advancement of technology, systems such as Lead Rubber Bearing (LRB) base isolators and Fluid Viscous Dampers (FVD) have been developed to dissipate earthquake energy. This study aims to analyze the comparative structural response of buildings using LRB base isolators and FVD dampers under seismic loading, employing the nonlinear time history method. In this research, a four-story hospital building located in Medan is modeled using Midas Gen Academic Version 2023 software. The earthquake records used in the analysis include Helena Montana – 01, Kern County, Parkfield, Imperial Valley – 04, and Borrego Mountain. The results indicate that the use of LRB base isolation increases the structural period and displacement while reducing the base shear force. Conversely, FVD reduces the structural period and displacement while increasing the base shear force. Both LRB base isolators and FVD are effective in reducing story drift, as well as shear forces and bending moments in columns. The reduction of internal forces in columns leads to a decrease in required reinforcement area by up to 25%. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the use of LRB is more effective in mitigating the seismic impact on structures in terms of base shear, story drift, internal forces, and column reinforcement requirements.en_US
