    Abstract
This study explains the deconstruction of trashtalk as a language of familiarity in the scope of friendship in students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of North Sumatra. The purpose of this study is to explain how the form of trashtalking is used and also how the meaning of the word trashtalk changes based on the analysis of deconstruction theory popularized by Jacques Derrida. This study uses a case study method with a qualitative approach. The data collection process used an accidental sampling technique involving 12 informants who were randomly selected at the research location. The results of the study showed that FISIP USU students used trashtalking to form familiarity with playmates or close friends. Trashtalk itself has a negative connotation because it is not in accordance with the norms that apply in society. Through the concept of deconstruction popularized by Jacques Derrida, it seeks to establish a new meaning of a text in this case trashtalk. With the concept of deconstruction, it tries to express other meanings from the meaning of trashtalk which has been negatively connotated to positive as a form of expression of familiarity that unites individuals or groups in friendship. In the process of this research, it was revealed that there was indeed a change in the meaning of trashtalk among FISIP USU students where the existence of this phenomenon made the familiarity in the scope of their friendship even closer. This is what Jacques Derrida emphasized that deconstruction is not just a method of analysis, but a way of thinking that explores the instability of meaning.
