This study found that the Medan Selayang community has a positive perception of traditional medicine using Karo oil, indicated by the high belief in the effectiveness of the treatment, especially in treating fractures, sprains, and muscle pain. These perceptions are formed from direct experience, cultural heritage, and a social environment that supports the practice of traditional medicine. These practices reflect the values of kinship, social solidarity and local wisdom in the community. Traditional medicine practitioners often perform social functions similar to medical social workers, as they provide emotional, social and spiritual support to patients.
