Moral Values Through The Main Character in The Film Shirley

Abstract

Background: Shirley is an example of a film that has the potential to build character and positive attitudes. Through this film, the author highlights the importance of moral values such as courage and determination in speaking out against racism and advocating for gender equality. Objective: This paper aims to portray Shirley as the main character and illustrate moral values through the main character in the film Shirley. Method: The method used in this paper is descriptive qualitative research. Data was collected by watching the film and reading books. The data sources in this research are the dialogues and scenes in the film Shirley. Results: The results of this study show that Shirley was the first Black woman in the United States Congress in 1972, who had the courage and determination to create change for everyone. The moral values highlighted by the author are Shirley's courage and determination in facing challenges in the political world. Conclusion: Shirley was the first Black woman to become a member of Congress, at a time when Congress was dominated by white men. Shirley also ran for president to create change in the United States. Shirley ran not for personal gain but for the benefit of all the people of the United States. Shirley also emphasized that she is not a Black presidential candidate but represents all people whose voices are not heard. Shirley also received a lot of support from both Black and white people. Shirley's courage and determination are the foundation for facing various challenges in the political world.
