Social Movement by Serikat Petani Indonesia (SPI) Simpang Kopas, Bandar Pasir Mandoge District in Fighting for Land Rights with the Oil Palm Plantation of Jaya Baru Pratama, LLC
Abstract
The Serikat Petani Indonesia (SPI) Simpang Kopas since 2009 or about 15 years ago has recorded a conflict with Jaya Baru Pratama Limited Liability Company (LLC) in the agenda of demanding the resolution of the land dispute of farmers who are members of SPI Simpang Kopas, covering an area of 600 Ha lands. In fighting for their land rights, SPI Simpang Kopas members often experience intimidation and intervention that would be expected from Jaya Baru Pratama. LLC, government officials and law enforcement officers. The purpose of this study is to describe the strategy of the SPI Simpang Kopas in carrying out social movements and the success or failure of SPI Simpang Kopas in fighting for land rights from Jaya Baru Pratama LLC. The theories used in this study are social movement theory and community organization theory. The research method used to answer this research is a descriptive qualitative research method, through literature studies, observations and interviews. The results of the study found that in terms of strategy SPI Simpang Kopas carries out social movements by providing education/cadre formation for members and sharing useful information for farmer members, so that farmer members are aware of their rights to obtain an independent and sovereign life. Through good organizational management, farmer members are able to create social movements that are in accordance with their goals. The success factors of the SPI Basis Simpang Kopas social movement are a sense of shared destiny where the members of SPI Simpang Kopas are people whose land was acquired by the company Jaya Baru Pratama.LLC, both farmer members are enthusiastic about learning to develop their capacity in the organization and farming skills, through this SPI Simpang Kopas succeeded in establishing "Koperasi Rakyat" the Sei Kopas Indonesian Farmers Union People's Cooperative. The failure factors experienced by SPI Basis Simpang Kopas internally at the beginning of its establishment were that the first generation of management was not ready and not serious in fighting for people's land rights so that several management changes were made, in addition to that, externally, the challenges faced by SPI were nontransparent regulations from the government and law enforcement officials as well as intervention from Jaya Baru Pratama LLC.
