Rice Field Rat Repellent Device Using PIR Sensor With Ultrasonic Wave Amplification and Solar Panel as Power Supply in Pardolok Lumban Lobu Village
Abstract
This research aims to design and implement an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient rice field rat repellent device using PIR (Passive Infrared) sensors and amplified ultrasonic waves, powered by solar panels. The system detects the movement of rats using a PIR sensor, which then activates an ultrasonic frequency generator operating at 50 kHz to emit sound that disrupts the rats’ hearing. Electrical energy is supplied by a 12V 10WP solar panel, stored in a 12V battery via a solar charge controller, and stepped down to power the system components. Test results show that the PIR sensor effectively detects rat movements up to 6 meters in open areas and 3 meters in planted fields, while the generated ultrasonic waves cause noticeable panic and disorientation in rats, especially within a 1–2 meter range. The system operates automatically and proves to be effective in repelling rats from rice fields, offering a modern, efficient, and sustainable solution for farmers in agricultural areas.
