This research discusses the practice of taboos for pregnant and postpartum mothers in the Malay community of Pekan Bandar Khalifah Village through a structural functionalism perspective. This concept views that every cultural element functions to maintain social balance. The taboos practiced serve not only symbolic purposes but also practical benefits for the health of mothers and babies, as well as strengthening social solidarity. Based on the experiences of informants such as Ibu Rina, Ibu Hamni, and Rama Dinda, these taboos continue to be practiced despite adaptations over time. Prohibitions such as not letting hair down or avoiding bathing at night are understood as forms of protection from metaphysical disturbances, providing individuals with a sense of security. Additionally, rules related to food and daily activities function to safeguard maternal health and reinforce social order within the community. The findings show that although modernization has influenced the younger generation‟s perspectives, these taboos remain relevant as mechanisms of social control and as expressions of respect for cultural values. This study illustrates how the social system of the Malay community persists and adapts to change without losing its primary function of maintaining cultural continuity and social order.en_US
