Clean water is essential for human life, but heavy metal contamination from industrial activities poses a serious problem for water sources, including borehole water. In Mabar Village, Medan Deli District, residents still use borehole water that shows signs of contamination, such as a yellow colour and a rusty odour. One of the hazardous pollutants present in the residents' well water is manganese (Mn) at a concentration of 1.24 mg/L. Efforts were made to reduce heavy metal levels using the batch adsorption method. In this study, pineapple leaves were utilized as raw material for activated carbon. The activated carbon obtained was characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). The concentration of manganese (Mn) in the samples before and after the addition of pineapple leaf activated carbon was determined using an Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The results showed that the concentration of manganese (Mn) in well water after the addition of pineapple leaf activated carbon, with contact times varying between 30, 45, 60, 75, and 90 minutes, decreased with manganese (Mn) adsorption rates of 81.45%; 84.67%; 86.29%; 88.70%; and 85.48%. The optimal time with the highest percentage (%) using pineapple leaf activated carbon at 75 minutes was 88.70% for manganese (Mn) at 0.14 mg/L, indicating that this study meets the requirements of the Indonesian Ministry of Health Regulation No. 492/Menkes/Per/IV/2010 on drinking water quality standards, where the permissible limit for manganese (Mn) is 0.4 mg/L.en_US
