The Influence of Health Education Intervention Based on Social Media on Healthy Life Behavior of Students at Sultan Iskandar Muda High School Medan City
Abstract
Clean and Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors (PHBS) are preventive efforts aimed at improving individual quality of life through consciously practiced healthy habits. However, data indicates that PHBS implementation in Indonesia, particularly in school environments, remains low with only 46.5% of schools comprehensively implementing these practices. Insufficient physical activity and irregular sleep patterns have emerged as two primary challenges faced by adolescents. This research aimed to determine the effects of Tiktok and Instagram-based health education interventions on healthy lifestyle behaviors, specifically physical activity and sleep patterns, among students at Sultan Iskandar Muda High School in Medan City. Using a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design through a non-equivalent control group with pretest and posttest, the study involved 30 students with data analysis using the Wilcoxon test. Results showed differences in mean physical activity behavior scores before (13.40) and after (18.60) Tiktok video interventions with a value of ρ=0.003, while sleep pattern behaviors showed minimal change from (9,80) to (13,53) with a value ρ=0.019. In the Instagram group, mean physical activity scores changed from (16.33) to (19.20) with a value ρ=0.157 and sleep patterns from (7.800 to (8.00) and ρ=0.877. The study concluded that there was a significant difference in healthy lifestyle behavior changes between students who received health interventions through Tiktok and those who received interventions through Instagram, with Tiktok showing higher effectiveness for improving students' physical activity and sleep patterns. These results highlight the potential of social media as a health education platform, particularly video formats that are more appealing to adolescents for adopting healthy lifestyle behaviors.
