Animated films serve not only as entertainment but also as medium that represent cultural values. This study aims to analyze the symbolism of antagonistic characters in the films Kung Fu Panda (2008) and Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) by employing a qualitative research method and conducting an analysis based on Peirce’s semiotic theory. The research focuses on two antagonists, Tai Lung and Kai, through an analysis of visual signs categorized as icons, indexes, and symbols. The findings reveal that Tai Lung represents ambition, resentment, and defiance of authority resulting from the failure to gain recognition, while Kai illustrates spiritual deviation and an obsession with power through the domination of chi. These characters function not only as narrative antagonists but also as ideological representations of imbalance in traditional Chinese values such as harmony, virtue, and inner equilibrium. The conclusion of this study indicates that symbolism in animated films can reflect cultural complexity and contribute to the interpretation of cultural values in popular media. This study is expected to contribute to the analysis of cultural symbolism in animated films and to enhance the understanding of how Chinese philosophical values are reflected in popular media.en_US
