This study aims to understand how the self-concept of adolescent Higgs Domino app users
in Trans Aliaga Village, Hutaraja Tinggi District, Padang Lawas Regency is formed and
how group communication influences this self-concept formation. This study uses a
qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm to explore the subjective meaning of
adolescents' experiences interacting with the Higgs Domino app and their social groups.
Data were analyzed through data condensation, data presentation, and drawing
conclusions to identify important themes. Data were collected through in-depth interviews
and participant observation. The results show that adolescents' self-concept is influenced
by social interactions within groups, both online and offline. Group communication within
the Higgs Domino community provides a space for adolescents to share experiences, seek
support, and build their identity. Interaction with this app plays a role in the process of
adolescents' social identity formation, where they feel more confident thanks to the search
for social recognition through the game. However, this study also found that peer pressure
and social comparison within the online community can negatively impact adolescents'
self-concept. The community also supports adolescents' activities playing the Higgs
Domino online game, with some using this situation as a source of income. This study
highlights the importance of a deep understanding of group communication dynamics and
their impact on adolescents' self-concept in the context of using the Higgs Domino app.
The study emphasizes the importance of collaboration between various parties, including
parents, educators, and the community, in managing and guiding the use of digital
technology among adolescents.
