    Abstract
The weakest part of a steel frame structural system is the connection. If the bolted connections are not designed properly, they can fail. Previous research generally only discusses one of the failure modes of bolted connections without identifying the potential failures of the dominant bolted connections as a whole. Research that analyzes the various potential failures of bolt connections of a steel frame structure is very limited so this study analyzes the potential failure of bolt connections in steel frame structures, where the steel frame structure of the bridge is chosen as the object of research by involving four cases of quality variation between plates and bolts. This study aims to analyze the potential failure of bolted connections in the bridge steel frame structure by examining displacement and stress and determining the critical joint in the bolted connection. The method used is data collection of the bridge steel frame structure, modeling the bridge steel frame structure in Midas Civil 2023 academic version, determining the critical joint of the bolted connection, modeling the bolted connection in ANSYS Workbench 2025 student version, and determining the potential failure of the bolted connection. The results showed that the highest displacement of the entire bridge steel frame structure was located at nodal 33 in the middle of the span with a displacement value of -158.82 mm. However, nodal 33 does not represent the working condition of the bolted connection so that the part of the bolted connection that has the highest displacement and stress is analyzed, located at nodal 35 with a displacement value of -149.374 mm and a stress of 11 N/mm^2. The results of the analysis of potential bolted connection failures show that case 1 and case 4 occur shear failure of bolt, case 2 and case 3 occur bearing failure of plate.
