Literary works are created to be enjoyed, understood, and utilized by the
community. This study discusses the religious system of the Toba people in the
legend of Lake Toba. This legend is not only considered an oral story passed
down from generation to generation, but also as a system of religion, culture,
norms and the spiritual relationship of the community with nature and ancestors.
The purpose of this study is to describe the religious system of the Toba people
contained in the legend of Lake Toba itself and describe how the community
perceives the legend of Lake Toba. The method used in this study is a qualitative
method using an interview method to collect data that will be studied by the
author. The results of the study show that the religious system contained in the
legend of Lake Toba is (1) religious emotions, (2) belief systems, (3) rites and
ceremonies systems, (4) rites and ceremonies equipment and, (5) religious
communities. Furthermore, the community's perception of the legend of Lake
Toba comes from a questionnaire answer from the Bakara community. From the
results of the study using a Likert scale calculation, 83,2% of the Bakara
community has a positive perception of the legend of Lake Toba.
