This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of female leadership subordination within youth organizations composed of Nias community members, specifically the Angowuloa Mahasiswa Nias (AMN) organization in Medan at Sari Mutiara Indonesia University. The primary focus of this research is to identify the forms of gender-based subordination, the underlying causes, and their impact on the role and participation of women within the organization’s leadership structures. It is expected that this study will contribute to a deeper understanding of gender dynamics within the AMN Medan youth organization and serve as a basis for developing more inclusive and equitable policies. The research employs a qualitative phenomenological approach. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, literature review, and document analysis. The findings indicate that female leadership subordination in AMN Medan manifests in several ways: male dominance in strategic decision-making positions, task allocation that tends to assign women to domestic-type roles, a lack of appreciation for women’s opinions, and minimal female representation in key organizational forums. The causes include socio-cultural constructions that relegate women to secondary positions, pervasive gender stereotypes, and a lack of awareness and support for women’s participation in leadership roles. This study contributes to sociological research by offering deeper insights into how subordination operates in youth organizations, particularly within the Nias community.en_US
