This study examines the phenomenon of naming coffee shops in Medan
Baru District, focusing on the anthropolinguistic aspects and the lexical meanings
contained in these names. Humans have a tendency categorize and name objects,
places, and people, reflecting identity, culture, and social values. The names of
coffee shops not only serve as labels but also reflect the experiences and
communities surrounding them. The research method used is qualitative
descriptive, with data collection through observation and interviews. The results
show that the names of coffee shops in Medan Baru District contain diverse
meanings, reflecting cultural backgrounds, social interactions, and consumer
preferences. Names like "Waiting List Coffee" illustrate the experience of
customers who must queue, while also creating an emotional bond with the place.
This research is expected to contribute theoretically to understanding the
relationship between language, culture, and social identity, as well as practical
benefits for consumers in choosing coffee shops that match their preferences.
Furthermore, this study also inspires the community to utilize coffee shops as
creative and interactive community spaces.
The results of this study are that three types of toponymic naming were
found in the names of coffee shops in Medan Baru District, namely, (1) Naming
based on the inventor of the cultural aspect, there are 9 data. Waiting List Coffee,
Culture coffee house, Simpang Rumah Coffe, Warung Seni Coffee Brew &
Roastery, Sada Coffee House & Roastery, Mamakchef bak kut The Eve's Canteen.
(2) Naming based on the inventor of the embodiment, there are 2 data, Habitat
Coffee, Manna Space. (3) Naming based on the inventor of the social aspect,
Jumpa Kawan Coffee, Kangens Coffee.
