This automatic tuber cutting device is designed to improve efficiency in slicing tubers such as sweet potatoes, carrots, and turmeric, especially for household and small-scale industrial use. The system utilizes an infrared proximity sensor to detect the presence of a tuber. Once detected, the signal is sent to an Arduino Nano microcontroller, which activates the DC motor via a relay and adjusts its speed using a PWM module. The motor's rotary motion is transmitted to the cutting blade through a pulley system and a 10 mm timing belt to ensure stable and precise cuts.Experimental results show that all tuber types were successfully detected by the sensor. The average cutting time was 10 seconds for each sample. The best results were achieved with carrots (4 mm, good), followed by sweet potatoes (5 mm, fairly good), while turmeric yielded less optimal cuts (3 mm, not good) due to its harder texture and smaller size. The PWM module played a vital role in maintaining motor speed stability, and the pulley system effectively minimized vibrations and improved energy transmission. Overall, the tool proved to operate automatically, efficiently, and with stable performance, though enhancements are needed for cutting tougher tubers.
