This study aims to analyze the main character and forms of gender discrimination
experienced by women in The Assistant movie, directed and edited by Kitty Green.
The objective is achieved through feminist approach by discussing gender
discrimination and determining what forms of gender discrimination are found in the
movie, utilizing a descriptive qualitative method. The analysis primarily focuses on
the dialogue and scenes from the movie. The research findings reached two main
problem statements. Firstly, the study discusses Jane as the main character, portraying
her as the only woman working among other male coworkers. The characterization is
found in Jane’s dialogue and mannerisms. Secondly, the research identifies forms of
gender discrimination experienced mainly by Jane, whilst also discovering how
women are treated in The Assistant movie. Furthermore, gender discrimination that
Jane experienced also triggers certain changes in Jane’s characterization.
