Factors Influencing the Conversion of Rice Fields into Residential Areas (Case: Tanjung Keriahan Village, Sirapit Subdistrict, Langkat Regency)
Abstract
The conversion of rice fields into residential areas is an increasingly prevalent phenomenon, particularly in rural regions facing growing demands for housing space. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the conversion of rice fields into residential areas in Tanjung Keriahan Village, Sirapit District, Langkat Regency. The sampling method used is the census method, resulting in a total sample of 33 respondents, representing the entire population that has undertaken land-use conversion for residential purposes. The data analysis method employed is multiple linear regression, with independent variables including land productivity (X₁), number of family members (X₂), level of formal education (X₃), accessibility (X₄), and knowledge of land conversion regulations (X₅), and the dependent variable being the area of land converted (Y). The study's results show that, simultaneously, the five independent variables, land productivity (X₁), number of family members (X₂), level of formal education (X₃), accessibility (X₄), and knowledge of land conversion regulations (X₅), have a significant effect on the extent of rice field area converted into residential use. However, partially, only the variable number of family members (X₂) shows a significant influence on land conversion, while the other variables do not have a significant effect on the conversion of rice fields into residential areas.
