This research is titled “Social Criticism Wrapped in Humor: Critical Discourse Analysis of
Bintang Emon's Instagram Content.” The aim of this research is to analyze how Bintang Emon,
an Indonesian comedian, voices social criticism through his Instagram video post titled “12%
VAT on Luxury Goods.” The research employs a qualitative method combined with Teun A.
van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach, covering three main dimensions:
microstructure (linguistic elements consisting of semantics, syntax, stylistics, and rhetoric),
macrostructure (social context and ideology), and superstructure (message delivery using a
systematic flow). The results of the study indicate that Bintang Emon strategically uses satirical
humor to criticize government policies, employing a language style that resonates with young
people. The criticism presented in the content tends to be emotional and not entirely based on
valid data, potentially contributing to the construction of post-truth narratives. Mass media
also plays a significant role in framing this content through the use of diverse perspectives,
which can either reinforce or obscure the main message. The findings of this study are
supported by expert interviews and literature on humor, media, and social criticism. This
research is expected to contribute to a deeper understanding of the role of humor in social
criticism and its impact on public discourse, as well as to critical discourse analysis and
political communication studies in the digital age. Additionally, it aims to provide insights into
the effectiveness and limitations of using humor in conveying social criticism
