Analysis of Economic Growth in the Tertiary Construction Sector Based on Primary and Secondary Factors Using Path Analysis
Abstract
Background: Structural transformation of the economy is a key factor in regional
development, where the relationship between sectors determines the effectiveness
of economic growth.
Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of the primary sector
(agriculture and mining), as well as the secondary sector (manufacturing industry),
and on the tertiary sector (construction) in North Sumatra.
Method: This study uses path analysis with data on the growth rate of North
Sumatra's ADHK GRDP for the period 2012-2023. The research variables include
the agricultural, mining, processing industry, transportation & warehousing, and
construction sectors.
Results: The results of the analysis show that the processing industry has a
significant direct influence on construction with a coefficient of 0.681.
Transportation & Warehousing has a positive effect of 0.161 on construction. The
primary sector (agriculture and mining) has an indirect influence through the
processing industry.
Conclusion: The growth of the construction sector in North Sumatra is greatly
influenced by the development of the processing industry as a secondary sector,
while the relationship with the primary sector still needs to be improved.
