    Abstract
This study discusses the phenomenon of self-reward practices among students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Sumatera Utara. Social changes and the increasingly modern cultural development have given rise to the concept of self-appreciation, which is becoming more popular among students namely, the habit of giving appreciation to oneself, known as self-reward. Self-reward refers to the practice or act of giving a reward to oneself as a form of appreciation for the process undertaken to achieve a goal. This research aims to understand students perspectives, as part of Generation Z, in practicing self-reward in their daily lives, and how they grow amidst technological advancement, with independent character, openness to change, and high concern for mental health and life balance. This study uses a qualitative approach with ethnographic methods to deeply explore students meanings of the self-reward concept, the underlying reasons behind the practice, as well as the various forms and patterns of its implementation. In addition, the study examines the dynamics of self-reward practices in relation to students financial conditions and investigates the impact on personality development as part of the adaptation process to modern values. The findings show that students understand and define self-reward practices from various perspectives. These practices are seen as acts of selfindulgence, happiness, enjoyment after overcoming challenges, giving gifts to oneself, and as forms of appreciation for the process, failures, and successes experienced. Students have diverse reasons for practicing self-reward, which are manifested in various forms and patterns. Moreover, the dynamics of selfreward practices affect students financial conditions and bring both positive and negative impacts on their daily lives. In conclusion, the phenomenon of self-reward practices is not only a form of self-appreciation but also a strategy to manage stress, balance academic and personal demands, and adapt to continuously evolving cultural values. This practice also reflects the internalization of modern values such as independence, concern for mental health, and awareness of the importance of valuing the journey undertaken. Therefore, this research is expected to provide new insights into the adaptive strategies employed by students in facing various life demands in the modern era.
