dc.description.abstractThis study examines the synthesis of polymer superabsorbent from sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (Na-CMC) and hydroxyethyl methyl cellulose (HEMC) with adipic acid crosslinking agent. The synthesis of polymer superabsorbent is done by mixing Na-CMC and HEMC in the ratio of 3:1 in a 2% solution, then the crosslinking agent will be added with variations of 1%, 3%, 5%, 7%, and 9%. The result of the mixture is a film that will be cut into small pieces and characterized by testing the degree of crosslinking, water absorption, FTIR, DSC, and TGA. The highest percentage of crosslinking degrees in the 5% SAP AA sample was 89.39%. The results of water absorption with the optimum value are in the 1% SAP AA sample of 13.183% or 131,83 g/g. The results of the FTIR test showed the formation of superabsorbent polymer in SAP AA 1% with the presence of -OH groups at wave number 3332.2 cm-1 and -COO groups at wave number 1416.4 cm-1. The thermogram results on thermal analysis using DSC produced a glass transition temperature (Tg) value of SAP between Tg Na-CMC and HEMC which is 117.15 oC where the glass transition temperature of Na-CMC is 124.93 oC. HEMC is 106.89 oC which indicates that the two samples have mixed. The TGA analysis for the Na- CMC sample left a residue of 34.8% of the initial mass and a mass loss of 69.3%, and for the SAP AA 1% sample left a residue of 37% of the initial mass and a mass loss of 70%.en_US
