The main objective of this study was to examine the moderating role of
social support on the influence of emotional regulation on the adversity quotient
(AQ) of Generation Z elementary school teachers in Medan City. This study used
a quantitative method with an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected
through the Adversity Quotient scale by Muztaba, the Emotion Regulation
Questionnaire scale by Gross and John translated by Radde et al., and the Teacher
Social Support scale by Oktarina et al. These scales were distributed to 166
teachers. The results of the analysis showed that the higher the perceived social
support, the stronger the influence of emotional regulation on adversity quotient.
The influence of social support was strongest on emotional regulation through
cognitive reappraisal compared to expressive suppression. The type of social
support that had the most significant impact was support from fellow teachers and
the principal. The implication of this study is that a positive school environment
can improve the ability to regulate emotions to deal with problems experienced by
Generation Z elementary school teachers in Medan City.
